Our Whirlwind trip to London & Paris
Driving home meeting Trent for lunch, my phone vibrated and I pulled the car over instantly. My heart was racing, today was the day I would find out if Undertow Media had selected me to travel to London with Warner Brothers pictures and be filmed in an experience to help promote the new movie The Nun, a terrifying horror in the Conjuring series. It was the email I had been waiting for, they wanted me to represent New Zealand in this exciting opportunity. I couldn’t stop crying, I had never been to London and I was beyond excited to share the news with everyone. I jumped straight on Instagram stories and shared this exciting news with my followers. The recommendations started to pour in, where to eat, what to do and where to stay!
Trent and I decided three days in London just wouldn’t be enough so decided to extend our trip by a week and also add in a quick trip to Paris seeing it was a dream of ours for quite some time. Now the planning could begin, we had less than three weeks until we left so decided booking our extra accommodation needed to be number one on our list. We jumped straight on Booking.com, which is always our go to when booking accommodation both in New Zealand and overseas. They have such an easy to use website with great ratings on all the accommodation options, so it’s super easy to refine your search and find options in your price range.
Our first choice of accommodation in London was the Mondrian Hotel in Southbank, we picked this firstly because of its prime location right in the heart of the majority of the tourist sights we wanted to see and because of its funky interior design. We were so impressed with this hotel, it was walking distance to everything we wanted to see and do in London with delicious food options close by as well. We spent the first few days of our trip exploring the local spots by foot and using the tube if things were slightly further away. Some highlights of these days would be seeing Buckingham palace and riding bikes through Hyde Park.
It was now time to jump on the Euro Star and take the two hour train to Paris, where we stayed at Les Baines. While searching on Booking.com for accommodation in Paris I had only one requirement…. a balcony so I could take a cute picture. No jokes! Les Baines looked perfect, it was small and quaint with a lot of character and of course a balcony. In Paris we spent our days just wondering the streets, every single inch of it was picture perfect and we were so lucky to have been blessed with two blue sky days. We didn’t want to leave Paris, it was such an incredible experience but knowing we were heading to Nobu in London for our final night’s accommodation before the Nun Movie Experience made it enticing.
Nobu was in Shoredicth, London which is such a funky area, so many cool little cafes with great night life. We had a few hours in the morning before our transfer arrived, but couldn’t bring ourselves to leave this beautiful room so just threw on a movie and snuggled up in bed to make the most of the accommodation.
The time had finally arrived, we were being picked up and driven an hour out of London for the experience. It was truly one the most terrifying things I have ever experienced, I loved every second of it, I don’t think my heart has ever raced so fast! I have shared the funniest footage on my Instagram, where you can see all my screams and reactions.
Flying home after such a short, but jam packed holiday all I could do was reflect on how lucky I was to be a part of such an amazing opportunity! Never in my wildest dreams, when I shared my very first photo online to help keep myself accountable would I have thought one day it would be taking me to the other side of the world. Goes to show if you work hard and believe in yourself you truly can achieve anything.
