Long Weekend Adventure Idea
For the first time ever we decided to make zero plans for the long weekend and it was the most amazing experience. I can't even remember the last time we were able to say a big "YES" to last minute plans. On Saturday morning when we woke up our flat mate Haley suggested going for a bush walk. It was a stunning day and as much as we wanted to stay in bed and watch "13 Reasons Why" we jumped at the offer knowing it would be good for us. We tossed a few location ideas around until her partner Chris suggested Okura Bush Walk. Neither Trent or I had ever heard of this before and it was only a mere 30 minute drive from our base in Mt Eden.
We made a delicious and hearty breakfast to fuel us for the day and set off with our water bottles in hand.
You entered the walk at the end of a dead end street and before you know it you are heading across a huge wooden bridge into the bushes. We were all so shocked that something this beautiful was just lying just on our door step! After walking for about an 45 minutes you reach a fork in the path where you can choose to either continue through the bush or if it is low tide do the coastal option. It was low tide and a stunning day so we decided to choose the costal option and walked along the shore line for the remaining 15 minutes. There was a few very close calls as it was still slippery from being freshly covered in water, but we all made it safely to the end. As you round the last corner you are greeted by a stunning, secluded, sandy white beach with a lone cottage perched in the distance. We had a quick break and allowed the day to sink in, it was a pure feeling of bliss.
After we had regained our energy we set off back to the car, we decided it would be a great idea to push ourselves and take the bush walk back via a very daunting set of stairs but as we reached the base of the stairs they had been flooded from the heavy rain in the days before. I was quietly relieved and enjoyed the more relaxed costal walk back! If you are stuck for ideas and feel like a quick and easy bush walk, Okura bush walk is for you.
